Argentina

Population: Approximately 45.9 million people as of early 2026, making Argentina the 35th most populous country in the world. Around 96 % of the population lives in urban areas, and the median age is about 33 years.

Brief History:
Argentina is a sovereign nation in South America with a history shaped by Indigenous cultures, Spanish colonization in the 16th century, and independence in 1816. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, the country experienced rapid economic growth and became one of the world’s wealthiest nations per capita by the early 1900s, driven by agricultural exports and European immigration. The 20th century saw periods of political instability, including military coups and democratic restorations, with full-scale democracy reestablished in 1983 after years of dictatorship.

Current Day:
Today, Argentina is a constitutional republic with a president as head of state and government. It has one of the largest economies in Latin America, rich in natural resources—especially in agriculture, energy, and mining—and a well-educated workforce. Recent years have seen economic challenges, including cycles of inflation and recession, leading to reforms aimed at stabilization. Argentina plays an active role in regional and global affairs and is known for its cultural contributions, including literature, music, and sport.
