Erinaceidae

Erinaceidae is the family of small insectivorous mammals that includes hedgehogs and gymnures. Members of this family are characterized by their compact bodies, short limbs, and, in hedgehogs, a coat of protective spines used for defense. They are primarily nocturnal, feeding on insects and other small invertebrates, and are found across Europe, Asia, and Africa.
