Phasianidae
Phasianidae is a family of heavy, ground-living birds that includes pheasants, grouse, partridges, junglefowl, chickens, turkeys, Old World quail, and peafowl. This family comprises 185 species across 54 genera. It was previously divided into two subfamilies—Phasianinae and Perdicinae—but recent evidence suggests a better division into Rollulinae and Phasianinae, the latter containing several tribes. While New World quail and guineafowl used to be included, they now belong to separate families. Grouse and turkeys, previously seen as distinct families, are now included in Phasianidae.
