Scolopacidae

Scolopacidae is a large family of shorebirds, primarily known as sandpipers, but also includes woodcocks, curlews, and snipes. They mostly feed on small invertebrates from mud or soil, using their varied bill lengths to reduce competition in coastal habitats. Sandpipers have long bodies and legs, narrow wings, and ranges in size from 12 to 66 cm. Their sensitive bills help them forage, and they typically have dull plumage, although some display brighter colors during breeding season. Most nest in open areas with simple ground scrapes, laying three to four eggs, and their young are precocial.
