Vespertilionidae

Vespertilionidae is a family of microbats within the order Chiroptera, commonly known as vesper or simple nosed bats. This family is the most diverse among bats, with over 300 species found worldwide, except Antarctica. Vespertilionids are specialized for various habitats and mainly use echolocation for navigation. Their tails are enclosed by flight membranes between their legs. The name derives from the genus Vespertilio, linked to the Latin term “vesper,” meaning ‘evening’, as they are often called “evening bats.”
